Rajasthan on 2 wheels

Away from the busy tourist trail is the rustic and rural Rajasthan. This cycling journey through backroads of Rajasthan explores the small villages nestling happily on the rugged terrains and introduces from close quarters the people who inhabit them. Wrinkled tree thickets, rustic huts with their thatched roofs, drooping camels chewing fodder, women cleaning their courtyards or designing the mud walls with plasters of clay, cow dung and hay and ever-smiling children is what these villages are all about.

In Rajasthan most of the roads are asphalt, however, in small villages, the roads are either broken or have been cobbled, thus making it difficult to use road bikes. Mostly along rustic rural lanes where there is little or no traffic, you get to experience rural India at its best. There are occasional stretches of busier roads as well, however, we provide 100% support vehicle to give you a lift if you would rather not ride on these sections. You will experience Rajasthan countryside firsthand and encounter pink-turbaned men, women carrying fodder in colourful skirts and camel carts plying along the roads.

This journey is ideal for cyclists looking to explore beyond the iconic monuments, as we uncover the real and un-spoilt rural Rajasthan.

Though it is a conglomeration of buildings built by successive rulers, it manages to retain a surprising uniformity of design and affords very fine view of the city from the upper terrace.
Rest of the day, we explore the bustling bylanes of Jodhpur which have artisans practicing their traditional crafts handed down to them by their elders. Khari printers do decorative floral patterns in gold and silver on plain or printed fabric. Block printers print various designs and patterns in different colours with the help of wooden blocks. You’ll also find artisans carving furniture, making puppets and traditional wooden toys. Along with engraving and embossing on brass, silver, jewellery, copper and even pottery, Meenakari is a specialty of this region. Jodhpur also specializes in stone carving, especially in sandstone, with artisans working hard at chiseling their finest filigree work. Colour as usual plays an important role in the life of Jodhpur as in Rajasthan. It is wonderfully evident in ghagharas (long flowing skirts), cholis (blouses), and odhnis (long scarves) of the women as well as the turbans of the men.
